In Person: Varun Gupta on the Chennai Photo Biennale

In the fourth episode of In Person, Varun Gupta, the director of Chennai Photo Biennale discusses audience building and development through the biennale format. He also touches upon the reimagination of the biennale—and other exhibition practices in general—in light of the global pandemic. Besides this, he talks about institution building in South Asia and the possibility of dialogue between contemporary art and media practices.

Gupta has been a strong proponent of public art in Chennai since 2010. In 2015, he co-founded the Chennai Photo Biennale and continues as its director. Being passionate about analogue and alternate photo practices, he spends his free time working in a darkroom.
